Hawaii Correctional Industries Unveils New Showroom at Open House

HONOLULU – An Open House was held for the Hawaii Correctional Industries (HCI).

HCI has a new showroom at 801 Dillingham Blvd where they can do business with State Departments, non-profits and community organizations.

Inmates learn job skills and are paid to do various jobs for these organizations and departments.

The jobs they can do are endless. It includes sewing uniforms, upholstering furniture, putting together modular furniture, carving wooden furniture, art pieces and figurines, welding and printing banners, business cards, calendars and anything else you can think of on paper.

Gingerbread ornaments, handmade by Halawa inmates, were on sale for $5.  All proceeds go to the Crime Victim Compensation Commission for victims.

The women from the Women’s Correctional Center culinary class were also on hand to cater the event.
